In addition to the normal tasks involved with servicing a car, a 4WD has some specific areas that require regular attention to keep your vehicle running optimally. These include:
- Front Differential:
- Check the fluid regularly.
- Change the differential fluid every 25,000 to 50,000 kilometres. **
- Look for leaks.
- Transfer Case:
- Change the fluid periodically. **
- Check the fluid level.
- Inspect the motor and its electrical connector for corrosion.
- Brake Lines:
- Spray white lithium grease or an anti-corrosion spray on brake lines to prevent rust.
- Rear Differential:
- Change the fluid regularly (typically not more than 50,000 kilometres). **
- Use the proper lubricant for locking differentials.
- Self-Leveling Systems (if equipped):
- Lubricate linkages that sense the vehicle’s height and activate the air pump for leveling.
** – (As per vehicle manufacturers maintenance schedule)
